How healthy is your town?
To be personally healthy, your surroundings must also be healthy.
Environmental Health is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment affecting human health.
A major global health priority identified by WHO was the link between our health and the environment we live in, from the water we drink, to the air we breathe, to the food we grow and eat. You should not take it for granted that in your town you have clean water and clean air.
More than three million children under the age of five die each year from environment-related causes, such as polluted indoor and outdoor air, contaminated water and lack of adequate sanitation.
We are nothing short of spoiled here:
In our lovely town of Harrogate such things are far from sight but they should not be far from our thoughts. We should feel gratitude for our living environment. Our council is proactive in promoting our environmental health, from the recycling schemes to the beautiful patches of green around our town.
It cannot be denied that our physical surroundings impact on our mental health.
Harrogate is certainly conducive to a friendly open and relaxed atmosphere, which is perhaps why it was voted the Happiest Place to Live in England 3 times in a row.
So many beautiful things to see
Harrogate has endless possibilities for relaxation and entertainment – vital for a state of wellness and kintalini.
We have the formidable Royal Hall, the magnificent and ecclectic Harrogate theatre, a zillion types of restaurants serving everything from traditional fish ‘n’ chips (from the famous Graveley’s of Harrogate) to the tempting Turkish and Mediterraean cuisine (in Yorkshire!) at the Istanbul bar & grill or the fabulous and creative menus and setting from So! Bar & Eats.
We have the stunning Valley Gardens with its beautiful 17-acre English Heritage Grade II listed garden in regal Low Harrogate, next to the Pinewoods woodland, romantic historic buildings, such as the Sun Pavilion and colonnades, surrounded by a wide variety of shrub, flower and herbaceous beds.
